It always strikes me that while they have all these girls in windows, there are no real brothels in the city. There are a few strip clubs with live shows, but no true bro thels.
You’d expect luxurious nightclubs with VIP girls, but in reality, it’s just the window scene. Maybe that’s why I had a meeting with one of the bosses here. He owns a small strip club and offered me the head manager position. As expected, I declined almost immediately—there’s no way to build a luxurious place in this environment.
First, the sex industry in Amsterdam is full of restrictions and limitations. But more importantly, I realized that tourists and visitors aren’t looking for luxury. They come to see this "indoor" version of street sex work—nothing more. It’s a bit cheesy, it looks cheap, but it makes money.
